Volunteer To Listen To Rush Limbaugh: Southern States

ATTENTION:
MIAMI, ORLANDO, ATLANTA, NEW ORLEANS, FORT LAUDERDALE, TUPELO AND OTHER SOUTHERN LOCALES

Thank you for showing an interest in boycotting Rush Limbaugh sponsors. This mission comes on the heels of his recent slanderous tirade that targeted college student Sandra Fluke, who was brave enough to testify in front of congress regarding contraceptive legislation. If you are interested in seeing a clip of Rush in action (brace yourself!), click here.

Because so much of the sponsorship of the Rush Limbaugh radio show is done on the local level, we need to focus on those advertisers as we move our boycott efforts forward. This requires (insert gag here) actually listening to the show and jotting down company names. Warning: Leading physicians recommend limiting these exposures to less than 20 minutes (snark, snark).

Please post your comments regarding sponsorship below and feel free to remain anonymous. If you would be so kind, put the date, time and company name. I can enter company contact information at a later time.

Thank you again for your support of this cause.

  1. Fortunately, I cannot find Rush on the radio in my new used car AND I am not driving in it when he spews. I will HOWEVER boycott anything remotely linked to Limpo ;-D

  2. When I still lived in the US years ago, I tried listening to Limbaugh. Really I did! The trouble was, I could hardly hear him over the screams of my dying brain cells.

  3. I'm just gonna leave this here (not mine - please repost as you see fit).

How to hurt Rush, perspective from a radio insider.

As a retired radio group VP with years of station management on my resume, here is a better suggestion. Go after the local advertisers on his show. There are very few local advertising availabilities on Rush's show and they sell at a premium. Monitor the Rush station, make a list of the local advertisers and do the following:

    1. Call the advertiser, be polite.
    2. Write a letter to the advertiser, be polite.
    3. Copy the station and the FCC with the advertiser letter.
    4. Politely call the General Manager of the station, tell the GM what you are doing and why, tell them you have contacted the advertiser and copied the FCC.
    5. If the local advertiser uses an agency, contact the agency, as well.Just ask the local business, if they use an agency.

It won't take many letters and phone calls to get their attention and remind the station that the letters need to be placed in the station's public file. (the public file is an FCC requirement)

Local stations don't get many local avails in Rush's show and many pay a huge fee to Premiere to run the show.If they start losing business because of that asshole, they will raise hell with Premiere.

If KFI in LA got a hundred letters with follow up phone calls it would get their attention very quickly. The key is to put on the pressure through the local advertisers.

The local station will blink and get very nervous, very quickly.

  5. In upstate South Carolina, Limbaugh's show was sponsored today by:
    Ingles supermarkets
Lear Capital, (800)957-4653 (number provided on commercial)
Davis Services, a heating and cooling company
    Invisible Fence - (800)804-DOGS or invisiblefence.com
    Sonny's Camp & Travel
    Pitman Discount Building Supply
    Vitacost.com
    Synergy Spine Vented

Commercials were every ten minutes, so it was easy to skip the program itself, although I caught a bit where he was ranting about Betty Friedan. Have we gone back 50 years?
