Please stay tuned...this blog will evolve and will include contact information for each of the listed corporations. If you have an opinion with regards to this situation, please comment below. If you have additional questions that I can investigate and report for you regarding ALEC, please include that as well. Thanks!
What is ALEC? ALEC is American Legislative Exchange Council, which was established in 1973 in Washington DC. Their motto, then and now, continues to be "Limited Government, Free Markets, Federalism". Based upon their ongoing actions, this can actually be interpreted to mean a far right wing agenda that infringes on the rights of all Americans. ALEC is a very powerful non-profit 501C organization that is actually much more powerful than a traditional lobbying group. ALEC is funded by a variety of profitable and influential major US corporation, as listed below on the boycott list. What is ALEC trying to do? ALEC is attempting to influence legislators at the state level to initiate legislation that supports a far right wing agenda. This influence is done via heavy-handed funding of selected politicians. ALEC has nine task forces that are designed to influence legislators to back measures that support their corporate interests. The organization indicates that they have 2,000 legislative members and 300 or more corporate members. Corporations benefit from the efforts of ALEC in that legislation is enacted that support their best interests. This includes tobacco legislation, Health Savings Account laws and the privatization of education. Their efforts are very far reaching and they have been successful in their efforts to buy the politics of this great nation. ALEC actually drafts legislation themselves and forwards to lawmakers for implementation. Recently this has focused on voter ID laws which is seen by most political analysts as a method to suppress the democratic vote as it targets the poor and elderly. It should come as a surprise to no one that ALEC and Koch Brothers work very closely together, to the detriment of our political system. BOTTOM LINE: ALEC IS MANIPULATING THE POLITICAL CLIMATE OF OUR COUNTRY BY ENGAGING IN FISCAL TERRORISM BOYCOTT ALEC: Here is a partial list of their main and largest corporations. You ROCK!! Thanks for the list, and keep on doing what you do.
ReplyDeleteWow, this makes things difficult, doesn't it? I suppose if we hadn't gotten to the point in this country where every industry was pretty much taken over by one or two corporations, we'd have an easier time taking our business somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the list. This ALEC thing makes me so angry.
Thank you for posting this list.
ReplyDeleteI've just seen a list called ALEC Alumni in Congress:

One of my DEMOCRATIC Senators is on it (although we think he is a DINO). What would be an effective way to put pressure on him to unaffiliate himself?
Gonna switch over to Verizon. Or maybe just move to Canada, where this isn't as big of an issue...
ReplyDeleteCredo Mobile is a good progressive company. And they will buy out your old contract!
DeleteI boycotted Walmart years and years ago. Now I will add Wallgreens to the list glad Coca cola backed out.
ReplyDeletewe stopped using wallgreens months ago when they stopped working with military insurance.
ReplyDeleteWait a minute...aren't YOU engaging in economic terrorism by boycotting these companies? Don't they have a right to free speech and association? How tolerant of you hypocrites.
ReplyDeleteOf course they have the right to free speech. And we have the right not to buy their products. You see, that's how free enterprise works.
ReplyDelete^^^ To Anonymous idiot ^^^
ReplyDeleteIf Europe is a nation, so is North America, meaning all the 'illegals' are actually legal.
Do you like having a police department to call when you need them? The fire department? Chances are you went to public schools and utilize them for your own spawn too.
Perhaps you should know some basic civics and social studies before opening your mouth.

ReplyDeleteIf Europe is a nation, so is North America, meaning all the people from Mexico are here legally.
I'm sure you utilize police services, 911, the fire department, roads and bridges, went to public schools and utilize them for your own spawn as well. You will be the first in line to apply for social security when you qualify. Medicare will pay more for your healthcare when you get old (if you aren't already) then you ever put into it. You're living in a civilization. Social policy is inevitable for any advanced country to succeed.
You should know a little bit about civics and social studies before running your ignorant mouth.
The notion that "free speech" means no one else is allowed to respond to it is ludicrous. No one has said they don't have "free speech" -- there is a huge difference between an INDIVIDUALS freedom of speech and corporations BUYING elections... that's not freedom of speech, that's abuse of power. Objecting to that as individuals IS "freedom of speech". Idiots who don't see that difference are, well, CONservatives.
